30-Day Song Challenge Day 5: A Song You Must Play Loud

Music is one of the most personal things about a person. The songs someone listens to can tell you a lot about them. I’ve always thought these daily song challenges were interesting but an Instagram post on some of my favorite songs feels insufficient. So I’m writing about them instead. Thank you for reading.

Spotify pointed me to this album just this year despite having been out for 15 years. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t heard Lyzanxia’s Unzu before because it reminds me of so many melodic death metal records from European bands. Because the year listed on the album is 2021 on Spotify, I thought this was a great new band.

However, Unzu actually dropped in 2006 — when I was still in high school. So, this was a great older band I had not heard of. It’s not like they were incredibly obscure, they just never went mainstream. They toured with bands like Behemoth and Soilwork, bands that I love. This is a band I could have been loving for the last 15+ years.

Anyway, the song above, “Strength Core,” is probably my favorite from this record. It is a heavy track but is incredibly melodic and catchy. Play this and the rest of the record loud.
