Music is one of the most personal things about a person. The songs someone listens to can tell you a lot about them. I’ve always thought these daily song challenges were interesting but an Instagram post on some of my favorite songs feels insufficient. So I’m writing about them instead. Thank you for reading.

There are some albums you hear that leave an indelible mark. Ben Howard’s “Every Kingdom” is one of those for me. “Every Kingdom” is a record that, to me, is best enjoyed cover-to-cover.

Of my favorite tracks is “Black Flies.” It’s a piece that is quiet and reflective, but meaningful. The bridge before the outro where Howard shows how powerful an acoustic guitar can be is beautiful.

What has always stood out to me is the theme of loss and how friends grow apart. People come through our lives and while they may not stay, you accept that people change and wish them the best. Change is one of the more difficult aspects of growing older but the memories rarely fade.
